Jordan Maldonado

Jordan Maldonado is a boxing trainer and manager best known for developing the careers of Puerto Rican sisters Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano and Cindy “Checkmate” Serrano. A former amateur boxer, he has served as both trainer and manager of Amanda and Cindy throughout their entire boxing careers and through all of their fights, combining technical preparation with career management.

Cindy first came to his gym to improve her fitness before developing into a professional boxer. Amanda followed her older sister into the sport. Maldonado helped develop their contrasting styles: Cindy’s movement and technical boxing, and Amanda’s southpaw pressure and punching power. In a 2014 interview, the sisters identified him as part of their management team and credited the team with pursuing wider exposure for their careers.

As their trainer and manager for every fight, Maldonado guided both sisters through all of their UBF championship victories. Cindy captured the UBF International Super Featherweight title against Angel Gladney by six-round unanimous decision on November 15, 2012. Amanda captured the UBF Inter-Continental Super Featherweight Championship against Lina Milagros Tejada on December 15, 2012, and the UBF World Featherweight Championship against Wanda Peña Ozuna on February 16, 2013. Cindy won the UBF World Super Featherweight title against Grecia Nova on May 10, 2013, and the UBF World Lightweight title against Diana Collado on May 12, 2014. Their achievements included simultaneously holding UBF world championships.

Beyond their UBF accomplishments, Amanda became a seven-division world champion and an undisputed featherweight champion, while Cindy also captured the WBO Featherweight title. Maldonado’s long association with both fighters illustrates the contribution of trainers and managers to the development of championship careers.
